It’s time to honour Victorian women

News bulletin: 15 September 2009

Acknowledging the achievements of inspirational women from all walks of life, nominations for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women 2010 are now open.

The Honour Roll, which was launched in 2001 as part of Victoria’s Centenary of Federation – Women Shaping the Nation event, seeks to recognise women who have contributed to changes in their community or a particular field of endeavour.

Winners are chosen for their invaluable contributions in the fields of science, human rights, social justice, education, and through their involvement in Indigenous communities.

Past recipients have come from a variety of backgrounds, and include well-known founding members such as pastoralist Elizabeth Macarthur, social worker Caroline Chisholm and opera singer Dame Nellie Melba.

Recent recipients have included athletes, judges, artists, nurses, educators, authors, activists and community workers.

Nominations are open to any woman living in Victoria who has shown leadership and made a considerable contribution to a particular field, or made an enduring contribution that has benefited the lives of other women and their communities at the local, national or international level.
