Capturing the essence of a sustainable future

News bulletin: 4 August 2009

Future Shots is a new competition that gives students the opportunity to address issues of sustainability through filmmaking.

Designed for Victorian students under 21, the competition asks entrants to put together a three minute film that expresses what sustainability means to them.

All film entries must explore the question: Sustainability: What’s it all about?

Using advanced film equipment is not a prerequisite and films submitted to Future Shots can be any genre and made from any filmmaking device.

Future Shots film entries close 6 November 2009.

Awards will be presented for the Best Film by a school and also Best Films by age categories.

The prize pool is valued at over $8000 and includes cash, computers and filmmaking equipment.

Filmmaking workshops for teachers

Teachers are encouraged to get involved and give students the opportunity to participate in this unique film challenge. Schools can provide the avenue for students to discuss and develop ideas, form film crews and shoot their films in a collaborative team environment.

To help prepare for the Future Shots Film Challenge, teachers are invited to attend one of the following filmmaking workshops:

  • 1 September, 10.30am to 11.30am
  • 1 September, 3.30pm to 5.30pm
  • 9 September, 4.00pm to 5.3opm

Each of these workshops will be held at: Global Vision Media 371 George St Fitzroy

The seminars will cover all areas of the filmmaking process, from story structure to production and editing. For those who can not make the training a Future Shots filmmaking information package is available by email.
