Epping Views enjoys their new school
News bulletin: 22 July 2009
After playing a vital role in supporting bushfire affected students, Epping Views Primary School staff and students are now enjoying their new school.
“The Epping Views Primary School community opened its doors to students and families from the nearby bushfire-affected areas of Kinglake and Flowerdale when those students were temporarily relocated from their schools earlier this year,” Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said at the official opening on 16 July.
“It was a great example of the culture we’re building in the education sector where we want all schools to be able to support each other to get better through good times and in times of need and it was heartening to see a new school leading the way,” added Ms Pike.
Epping Views Primary has two ‘learning neighbourhoods’ that feature open plan work areas, with library, art, and science facilities in both buildings. It also has a multi-purpose music and canteen block, and an administration building. The modern school buildings are designed to focus on developing a broad range of students’ skills.
A priority of the school is developing sustainability practises including collecting storm water, installing solar panels, building a chicken pen and becoming a paper-free school.
Epping Views received $8.53 million for their building project, a combination of $5.43 million from the Victorian Schools Plan and $3.1 million from the Federal Government’s stimulus funding.
