Nominate your community volunteer of the year

News bulletin: 5 October 2009

The 2009 Premier’s Community Volunteering Awards recognise the contribution that volunteers, not-for-profit groups and organisations make to their communities.

Categories for the awards include the Community Volunteering Achievement Award, Community Volunteering Innovation Award, Community Volunteering Leadership Award and the Young People’s Community Participation Award.

The inclusion of the Young People’s Community Participation Award, in particular, provides an opportunity for Victorians to celebrate the contributions young people have made as community volunteers.

By shining a light on the actions of our young volunteers the awards also highlight the positive benefits that volunteering can have on a young person’s development.

Involvement in community projects gives children and teenagers the opportunity to: strengthen their communication skills, build confidence when working in teams and develop a social conscience and sense of belonging within the community.

Make a nomination

The awards are open to all not-for-profit groups and organisations that offer opportunities for people to become involved in volunteering, as well as individuals who provide leadership in volunteering organisations.

Parents, schools and community organisations are encouraged to nominate any young people that have made a real difference to the community organisations they volunteered for.

Awards will be presented for both metropolitan and regional nominations and every category winner will receive a $5000 prize to the organisation they are volunteering for.

Nominations close on Wednesday 21 October.
