Box Hill’s Sport Development Program caters to students from years 10 to 12 who are aspiring athletes.

It is one of only two schools to be granted this status in Victoria. The other school is Maribyrnong Secondary College.

The program combines VCE with intensive sport training and will foster the potential of students both on and off the field.

Minister for Education, Bronwyn Pike said the school’s specialised program would maximise a student’s academic achievement while also developing their sporting skills.

“Box Hill recognises that students must also plan for a career beyond sport so the students study subjects that are relevant to their career goals”, Ms Pike said.

Box Hill’s new status will also highlight the specialised sporting programs already underway at the college.

Box Hill delivers elite sports development programs in basketball and Australian football and attracts talented athletes Victoria-wide into its VCE program

In 2005, Box Hill Senior Secondary College also opened its middle-years tennis school—an elite tennis program on site.
