School Literacy Leaders to lay the foundations of learning

Literacy is so much more than reading and writing – it's the foundation for all other learning.

Assistant Deputy Secretary for Schools Sharyn Donald says literacy enables [kids] to access and participate in education.

'It allows them to become active and informed citizens, and enables them to tell fact from opinion and connect with community and beyond.'

This year, we're ensuring there will be a Literacy Leader in every Victorian government school – starting with primary schools.

The Literacy Leaders will champion best practice in teaching and learning to ensure we are lifting literacy standards right across Victoria.
