Slam dunk for Victoria’s TAFEs

TAFE Victoria students will learn from the best in basketball, with the announcement of a new partnership with National Basketball League team Melbourne United for the 2017-18 season.

Melbourne United players and coaches will conduct leadership and motivation sessions with various TAFEs around Victoria in the coming months.

The partnership will create opportunities for TAFE students to build even stronger industry connections and link to the real world skills they gain through practical training.

Department of Education and Training Department Deputy Secretary David Latina says TAFEs are helping to ensure Victorians have access to the right training for jobs today and into the future.

'TAFE Victoria offers more than 500 courses, giving people the chance to change their lives and lay down the foundations for a long and successful career,' he says.

'Melbourne United is similar in what it does for its players — it gives them the opportunity to excel and be their best.'

Melbourne United Chief Executive Officer Vince Crivelli is also excited about the partnership.

'The TAFE Victoria round held late last year was a great success,' Mr Crivelli says. 'More than 1,000 students and friends of TAFE from around Victoria attended and supported Melbourne United. Their very vocal support on the night spurring the home team on to a great win.'

TAFE Victoria is the exclusive education sponsor for Melbourne United.
