Narre Warren South P-12 College has used part of their equity funding to establish a specialist music program for 25 students in Years 7 and 8.
Improved NAPLAN results and kids loving school – an equity-funded music program is equalising opportunities at Narre Warren South P-12.
Every child deserves the best start to life. But some children start from a position of disadvantage. Equity funding provides extra money to schools to help students in need reach their full potential.
Narre Warren South Year 8 student Felicity has been in the Fusion music program for two years.
'I definitely think it's helped with my confidence and it definitely makes me more excited to come to school,' Felicity says.
Principal Rob Duncan says the Fusion music program is contributing to improved NAPLAN results and parent surveys, as well as boosting students' enthusiasm for school.
Being in a low socio-economic area, equity funding means their school can deliver a music program that equalizes opportunities for students.
