mecu Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award

The mecu Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award recognises excellence in the development and delivery of educational programs in the middle and later years of schooling by outstanding classroom teachers.

In establishing this award the Victorian Government is proud to acknowledge the teaching excellence of secondary teachers. Secondary teachers make a significant difference to the lives of their students. Outstanding secondary teachers model excellent teaching and learning practice and recognise the importance of ongoing professional growth.

The mecu Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award aims to recognise and develop the talent of innovative secondary teachers who have demonstrated excellent teaching practice and made a significant contribution to improving student outcomes. The recipient of the Award will have the opportunity to undertake professional learning in one or more of the following areas:

  • Lead a major school-based, cluster or network project.
  • Undertake research, project work or formal study.
  • Be mentored by or shadow a colleague.

Award details:

  • The opportunity for the recipient to identify and undertake professional learning to address an identified need that will result in improved student outcomes
  • $10,000 to be used to cover course costs, travel, accommodation and leave to undertake the activity
  • One year’s free membership with the Australian College of Educators and a further three years membership at a reduced rate (half cost)
