2009 Outstanding School Leadership Award Winner
Colin Simpson, Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Western Metropolitan Region
Colin Simpson has been principal of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School since 2004. He has worked extensively to develop visual arts education and the teaching of contemporary art in Australian schools and now leads a select entry school for dancers and musicians.
He has led the school through a major building project and a complete restructure of the school financial and staffing relationship with The University of Melbourne.
He hopes that winning this award will enable him to further contribute to the development of the arts in education and arts specialism in schools.
In June 2009, the school moves to its new world-class facility at 57 Miles Street, Southbank. All students leaving the VCA Secondary School receive full VCE, VET qualifications and the coveted VCA Secondary School Certificate of Dance or Music.
