How to Enter
The Cultural Diversity Quest Awards are open to all Victorian students, teachers and school communities.
The Quest is an excellent opportunity for your school to promote the good work that is being undertaken in the classroom and with the wider community.
Entry to the 2012 Cultural Diversity Quest is now open. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 22 February 2012.
Entry forms
To request a Student entry form or a Teacher and School entry form, email: cultural.diversity@edumail.vic.gov.au
You and your students are invited to address issues around cultural diversity by focusing on:
- Individual identity - for example, a class of grade 4 students produced "Cultural Diversity Quilts" as their entry into Quest in 2011. Each quilt panel is a reflection on the cultural identity of the student who produced it and the quilts are symbolic of the unity of many cultures within the grade level.
- School and Community Partnership – McGuire College in Shepparton was awarded the School and Community Partnership Award in Quest 2011 for an extensive array of programs held in conjunction with their local community. The programs capitalised on the diversity of the school and community population and were held across the entire school year.
- Broader issues in the national and global contexts – for example, a small regional school researched the impact of their actions on global environments, in this case the impact of palm sugar cultivation on the habitat of the orangutans of Sumatra. Grade 3-6 students developed promotional material about the rainforest habitat while the younger students produced a bilingual picture story book in English and Indonesian on the subject.
Guidelines
The Cultural Diversity Quest 2012 Guidelines have a wide range of topics suitable for the Quest competition. These are taken from the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and should not be seen as either prescriptive or exhaustive; they can be adapted and enhanced further by you or your students.
