Instrumentalists have always played a major role in many of the performances by the VSS Performance Ensembles. 2004 saw the introduction of the Stage Band, a musical ensemble that rehearses regularly in Melbourne, on Saturday mornings.
Consisting of up to 20 players, this group is made up of students in years 7 to 12 who attend a government school and have attained a playing level of grade 5 AMEB or equivalent. Their repertoire ranges from traditional swing band music to popular and funk styles.
During the past 2 years, this talented group of musicians have performed at many government functions. Some events included the Premiers VCE Awards Ceremony at Crown Palladium, the Presentation of Team Victoria at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic’s Centre and the 2008 Victorian School Sports Awards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Making up the core of the Victorian State Schools Stage Band is our quartet.
Consisting of four extremely talented students the quartet has appeared on their own at several prestigious government events, the most recent of which was the Welcome to International Students Ceremony at Government House. The students are pictured above, with His Excellency the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser A.C.
Limited places are still available for musicians who wish to join the Victorian State Schools Stage Band Ensemble, so if you or someone you know has a strong passion for music and would like to join, please contact the office on 9415 1700 or email jtc@edumail.vic.gov.au to arrange an audition.
