JtC Music Industry Course

10-week intensive course for aspiring musicians

Course outline

This year we will be offering a new weekly student course under the guidance of James Kempster, one of Australia's leading song writers and producers.

This course will comprise ten 3 hour sessions where students will examine contemporary music history, the art of song writing, audio music production and current music industry trends.

Students will write, produce and perform their own works in both a co-write and class situation. Students will experience sound recording and production at a professional level.

Course aims

This 10-week intensive course for aspiring musicians aims to:

  • provide students with a knowledge of contemporary music composition
  • give students a knowledge of copyrighting, publishing, and music production
  • give students a basic understanding of how the music industry operates
  • give students the opportunity to perform and record their original songs
  • expose students to the technology and environment of a modern music recording studio
  • give students a greater understanding of tonality and melody in relation to song composition
  • provide students with the knowledge to write and produce their own compositions.

Starting Date: Sunday 19th July  

Time: 10am till 1pm

Duration: 10 weeks, three hours a week.
