In 2010, the Victorian State Schools Performance Ensembles will feature as part of the 2010 Victorian State Schools Spectacular.
The performance ensembles are a vital part of the JOINING the CHORUS program. They allow students with an aptitude and talent for performance to receive tuition and direction from leading arts teachers and gain valuable performance experience, whilst showcasing the strength of the performing arts in Victorian government schools.
These ensembles attend weekly rehearsals geared towards learning new performances. The major difference between a JOINING the CHORUS managed ensemble and a dance or singing school is that our primary focus is not to teach basic skills but to utilise talent and mould a performance troupe.
Any student attending a Victorian government school in 2010 is welcome to audition for the performance ensembles irrespective of experience or training. However, it is an audition and the most appropriate students will be selected. If they enjoy and have a talent for performance, wish to experience a range of performance opportunities, and would gain from tuition from leading teachers, they could be candidates for a Victorian State Schools performance ensemble.
Dance auditions are held in groups of approximately 10-20 and singing, strings and band members auditions are solo.
As JOINING the CHORUS is a Department of Education and Early Childhood Development initiative, fees for ensemble membership are only $200 per year. This covers all tuition, administration, transport to performances when required and costumes. There is a reduced fee of $100 for students that qualify for Youth Allowance or Education Maintenance Allowance. Ensemble members must attend a Victorian government school in the year of ensemble membership.
