JOINING the CHORUS

JOINING the CHORUS (JtC) is the performing arts initiative of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Established in 1995, its underlying philosophy is to promote the performing arts in Victorian government schools by offering students performance opportunities that both showcase excellence and provide valuable performance experiences in professional environments.

These goals are achieved through the Victorian State Schools Performance Ensembles and JOINING the CHORUS major events.

The JOINING the CHORUS major events include:

• The JOINING the CHORUS Musical (in 2007 Oklahoma! musical - the inaugural JtC musical at Her Majesty's Theatre)
• The Victorian State Schools Spectacular
• participation  in some of Melbourne biggest events.

Through its ten year history JOINING the CHORUS has provided over 25,000 Victorian government school students with unforgettable performance opportunities, while providing support and information to the Victorian government school community.

In 2009, JOINING the CHORUS will be offering 

• "Staging a Musical": Professional development workshops for teachers: covering  dance, music, voice, costume, and set construction. 
• The JOINING the CHORUS Regional Showcase program, providing regional performing groups with theatrical performance experiences. 
• the ongoing tuition and performance work of the Victorian State Schools Performance Ensembles.
• The JOINING the CHORUS Musical "Barnum" 
• Fourth term pre-production and expressions of interest for the Victorian State Schools Spectacular 2010
