During Education Week, many government schools and kindergartens will open their doors to local parents and the broader community through information nights, open days, student displays, performances and other special events that showcase their programs and achievements.
For a list of the events for parents, see: School and Kindergarten Open Days
In addition, a week-long Education Week Calendar of Events will offer activities free-of-charge to kindergartens and government schools. The calendar features educational activities supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in partnership with libraries, art galleries, museums, performance groups and other organisations with education programs.
For the list of all free events in each region, see: Free Events
During Education Week, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development celebrates and recognises the outstanding work of Victoria's teachers, leaders and school services/support officers through the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development also pays tribute to the teaching profession, parents and community volunteers through the Long Service, Parent, Retiring School Councillor and Community Service Awards.
Coordinated by the Education Foundation, Back to School Day encourages schools to invite former students back to share their success and act as role models for current students.
