Children's Week event information
Bass Coast Children's Expo
Victorian YMCA Community Programming Pty Ltd
DescriptionThe Expo is an opportunity to inform the community about the available child and family services available within Bass Coast in a fun filled environment in partnership with the YMCA Bass Coast, Bass Coast Shire and the Wonthaggi Primary school along with other community groups.
Attendance is free and early years services / organisations (eg Kinders, schools, Noah's Ark, speech pathologist, family day care, immunisation) etc will have stalls set up in the foyer of Council's Arts Centre with information for parents, and interactive activities for the kids eg face painting, colouring, building blocks, craft activities etc. We will provide free fruit and water to the kids.
Council's Arts Centre incorporates a full size cinema screen. Leading up to the Expo we are encouraging schools, kinders, early learning centres etc to undertake activities with the kids around the theme “Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full. It should encourage children to respect their parents, their cultures and other cultures”. This may be in the form of kids building sets for small skits, a Q and A session around education, respect and diversity, writing poems, dancing, creating art works, photographs etc.
We will arrange to film performances where appropriate. Drawings, photos etc will be put into a slide show. The filming and slideshow will then be screened at the cinema (free entry) throughout the day to encourage the kids and their families to come along and view their work. We will also be screening a short film, or hosting a live show, free for kids which has commercial appeal (to get them in the door!) that will include messages around education and respect.
