In 2009/10, procedures for closing schools, school bus routes, school off-site activities and children’s services on days of high fire risk were revised. Schools and children’s services identified as being at high fire risk close on days declared Code Red by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Parents should be familiar with the details of the emergency management plan for their child’s school, kindergarten or early childhood centre and raise any queries or concerns with their child’s principal, teacher or school council representative. Parents are also advised to make sure the school or service has their current contact details, including mobile phone number.
