Turning study into so much more.
When Indi Clarke decided to take up study at his local TAFE in Mildura, he could not have predicted where - and how far - it would take him.
His journey started when he decided to study a TAFE business course as part of a traineeship with an Aboriginal health and family services provider.
With a passion for making a difference to the lives of young Aboriginal people throughout Victoria, Mr Clarke used his study and skills to become a community leader as the Deputy Manager of the Koorie Youth Council - a role which he relishes.
'I’m in love with the job I’ve got at the moment,' Mr Clarke says.
'I just plan to continue on my journey within the council, helping it develop and prosper towards our vision.'
TAFE put Mr Clarke on the path to success and helped him to put into practice his passion for learning and supporting his community.
'TAFE was the most direct path to the rewarding type of work I had always wanted to do,’ Mr Clarkeexplains.'
TAFE suited my hands-on learning style and the teachers are genuine people who want to help you along your journey.
'I leaned lots of skills at TAFE, such as project and time management, which helped me prepare for the workforce and I use them in my everyday life as well.'
His hard work and dedication has been recognised through his many awards, including Mildura Rural City Council’s Young Citizen of the Year, Koorie Student of the Year and his nomination for a prestigious Ricci Marks Award, which recognises the achievements of young Aboriginal people.
At just 24 years old, Mr Clarke’s journey shows just how far TAFE can take you.
