Rural and regional Victorians interested in a job in teaching are encouraged to apply for a State Government scholarship designed to help them get there.
The Rural Scholarship Program provides financial support to rural candidates about to start an alternative pathways course that leads to an initial teacher education qualification.
A limited number of scholarships are also available for rural candidates about to start a postgraduate initial teacher education qualification.
Department Executive Director Gene Reardon says the scholarships are part of the State Government's Excellence in Teacher Education reforms, designed to attract and develop the best and brightest teachers to Victoria.
'A great education starts with valuing our teachers,' Ms Reardon says.
'Teaching offers opportunities for impact and challenge in a career that will make a lasting difference to children's lives and lay the foundation for a prosperous, empowered society.'
'Committed, passionate and caring teachers inspire our kids and young people to embrace learning and believe in themselves.'
'These scholarships will ensure candidates from diverse backgrounds have access to high quality pathways into teaching.'
Rural Scholarship applicants must:
- live in rural Victoria
- be starting a course in 2018
- show an interest in working as a teacher in a Victorian government school.
Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply.
Applications for the program are now open and close on 31 January 2018.
