Through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) all States and Territories have agreed to work together on a set of National Partnerships (NPs) that aim to improve early childhood, schooling and youth transitions outcomes.
Early Childhood Education National Partnership
On 29 November 2008, COAG endorsed the National Partnership Agreement on Early Childhood Education, with the aim that by 2013 every child will have access to a preschool program in the year before school.
Indigenous Early Childhood Development National Partnership
The National Partnership for Indigenous Early Childhood Development was agreed by the Council of Australian Governments to improve the outcomes of Indigenous children in their early years by addressing the high levels of disadvantage they currently experience to give them the best start in life. More information on this National Partnership will be available later this month.
Smarter Schools National Partnerships
On 29 November 2008, COAG agreed to the three Smarter Schools NPs on:
The NPs will fund a range of initiatives to support the educational needs and well-being of students in participating schools and improve outcomes across the Victorian school system.
Youth Attainment and Transitions National Partnership
Covering the period 2 July 2009 to 31 December 2013, the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions was agreed at the 2 July 2009 COAG meeting.
The NP aims to increase participation of young people in education and training, increase attainment levels nationally and improve successful transitions from school.
