Families as Partners in Learning

Families have the first and most significant influence on their children’s learning, development, health, safety and wellbeing.

The Department is commited to ensuring that parents and families are valued partners in their child’s learning and development.

The Families as Partners in Learning website is a practical resource for early childhood services and schools to build and strengthen family partnerships. This website provides early childhood professionals, school leaders and teachers with:

• comprehensive information on the importance of family partnerships
• strategies from best practice examples of family partnerships
• tools and resources to assist in the development of successful family partnerships

This website will enable early childhood services and schools to assist families to become more active participants in their child’s learning, particularly learning in the home.

Throughout this website the term ‘families’ is used to describe the wide variety of home arrangements that people establish to care for children. Families can comprise one or more biological parents, step-parents, grandparents, cultural and kinship relationships, carers, guardians or trusted adults.
