Directions and Priorities
Our Department's Corporate Plan contains a comprehensive five year plan that brings together our new vision and mission, along with challenging goals and priority areas that deliver on the reforms outlined in the Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development which was launched in early September 2008.
Our four major corporate priorities are:
-
Increase access to high-quality early childhood health, education and care services
There is growing evidence and awareness that improving outcomes in early childhood provides a strong foundation for improved health, wellbeing, learning and development outcomes throughout life. Ensuring all Victorian young children have the best possible start in life is the driver for the provision of high quality early childhood services. -
Strengthen public confidence in a world-class school education system, with a strong and vibrant government school sector at its core
Our focus is on the provision of quality teaching and learning among all schools, regardless of ownership. We must aim to ensure all young people are equipped with the skills and capabilities they will need for economic, social and cultural success in the twenty-first century. -
Integrate services for children and families
A major part of this priority is achieving greater integration between schools and other early childhood services. Children face a number of transition points throughout their school career: early childhood to primary school; primary school to junior secondary; junior secondary to senior secondary; and post school. -
Improve outcomes for disadvantaged young Victorians
The impact of disadvantage flows through to later life, including workforce participation and health and wellbeing, making early identification and targeted action essential.
