Outcomes for Victoria's Children

The Department works with other parts of government to systematically monitor the safety, health, development, learning and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people, from birth to adulthood.

This includes:

  • Building a Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System (VCAMS) to bring together and make available information on child outcomes.
  • Gathering new data through statewide surveys of children and young people’s health and wellbeing.
  • Reporting how children and young people are faring, including through state of Victoria’s children reports.
  • Assessing ways to intervene to improve outcomes, constructing and refining a catalogue of evidence based strategies.
  • Helping Victorian communities to plan better responses, particularly to include higher need children and families.

This work is undertaken in keeping with the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005.  For more information about this, see Legislation.  This Act established the Victorian Children’s Council and the Children Service’s Coordination Board to support the government’s focus on outcomes for Victorian children.

The overarching legislation that impacts Victorian children is the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005. For more information about this, see Children's Services Legislation
