Horsham North Primary School
The new state-of-the-art double classroom at Horsham North Primary School is transforming the way students learn by adding a vocational twist to their studies.
The Building the Education Revolution (BER) facility is being used to provide a careers education program, known as the Primary Technical Schools Project, for Year 5 and 6 students.
The pilot program, created in conjunction with community based employment organisation WORK CO, aims to increase literacy and numeracy rates and reduce attrition by catering for the interests of all students.
Principal Brenda Evans believes the program, which will introduce students to vocational education curriculum, will increase school retention by maintaining engagement with students who may be interested in undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship after completing their education.
“By introducing them to a vocational education curriculum the students are provided with practical experience in technical and trade based areas,” she said.
According to the principal, none of these opportunities would be possible without the BER program.
“The Building the Education Revolution has made all these educational opportunities possible through this modern facility which provides the students with an outstanding learning environment,” a delighted Ms Evans said.
