Cultural Diversity Plan
With Victoria's population hailing from over 230 nations, speaking 180 languages and dialects and following more than 116 religions, this state is truly multicultural.
The Department's Cultural Diversity Plan 2008-2010 promotes cultural acceptance and awareness for Victorian schools and early childhood services. The Plan outlines the initiatives that will be undertaken to target valuing diversity, reducing inequality, improving access, encouraging participation and promoting the social and economic benefits of cultural diversity.
The vision of the Department, as outlined in the Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development (2008), is to promote full and active participation by all members of the school and early childhood community regardless of ethnic, religious, racial or linguistic background by:
- building on the values of respect and inclusion
- ensuring equitable access to services and programs
- recognising cultural diversity as an asset to the State
- promoting community capacity building
