VET Fee and Funding Review

In 2011, the Essential Services Commission completed the review of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) fee and funding model. In their report, VET Fee and Funding Review, the Commission makes 43 recommendations on how to further the reforms of the Victorian vocational education and training system. The report has been tabled in Parliament by the Minister for Finance.

The review was established to examine the extent to which current VET fee and funding arrangements contribute to producing the skills needed by the Victorian economy. This included examining the effectiveness and efficiency of government fee and funding mechanisms.

The Minister for Higher Education and Skills has appointed two experts to conduct public feedback sessions. Professor Gerald Burke and Dr Peter Veenker ran public feedback sessions on the Commission's recommendations and provided advice on the outcomes of these sessions to the Minister for Higher Education and Skills in November.

The feedback sessions, as well as the online survey and submission process, gave members of the public, students, trainees, training providers and businesses the opportunity to provide their opinion and feedback on the report's recommendations and allow for public discussion and debate.
