The Department recognises that public consultation is an important part of developing the early childhood and education reform agenda and engaging with the many interested stakeholder and community groups in the sectors.

Current public consultations
Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Quality Reforms - as part of a range of reform work being undertaken in the areas of education, skills and early childhood development, the Commonwealth Government and State and Territory Governments, through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), have committed to developing a rigorous National Quality Agenda. A COAG consultation Regulation Impact Statement has been developed which outlines various options for three elements of the Agenda.
Completed public consultations
Children’s Services Regulations 2009 - Stakeholders are invited to comment on the draft Regulations and the Regulatory Impact Statement. The proposed Children’s Services Regulations 2009 are intended to replace the Children's Services Regulations 1998 which are due to sunset on 25 May 2009. [These consultations closed on 23 March 2009.]
Early Years Learning Framework - consultation on the Early Years Learning Framework took place around Australia. This was a follow up to the consultations which took place throughout August and September 2008 on the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care. [These consultation closed in early February 2009.]
Education and Training Reform Amendment (Age Requirements) Regulations - information was provided for public consultation about proposed replacement regulations to set the minimum and maximum age limits for enrolment in Victorian government schools. [These consultations closed on 19 December 2008.]
Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development - information about the consultation process into development of the Blueprint [held April 2008].
National Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians - public feedback on the draft Declaration that will set the direction for Australian schooling over the next 10 years. [These consultations ended on 3 October 2008.]
Strengthening student support services: A discussion paper for consultation - shaping the future directions of student support services. [These consultations ended on 26 September 2008.]
Transition, a positive start to school - expression of interest to participate in pilot program [This closed on Friday 26 September 2008.]
National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care discussion paper - development of the national standards for early childhood education and care and the Early Years Learning Framework. [These consultations closed on 19 September 2008.]
