Fire Action Week - 11-18 October 2009 (Statewide)

What is Fire Action Week?

Fire Action Week encourages all Victorians to start planing and preparing for the fire season, no matter where they live.

Victorians are encouraged to identify their fire risk, prepare their fire plans, clear vegetation from their properties and local communities, and get involved in fire safety and/or community fireguard meetings.

What are schools doing?

Schools are being encouraged to use this week to practice their fire drills, update and/or discuss emergency plans with staff, develop activities for students on the importance of being fire ready and to get involved in local community events.

As a parent or carer, what can I do?

  • Look out for more information about activities your school, kindergarten and local community is planning
  • Make sure your school, kindergarten or child care provider has your current emergency contact details, including your mobile number
  • Review and update your family fire safety plan
  • Think about alternative care arrangements should your child’s school, school bus route, kindergarten or child care service be closed.

For more information on activities across Victoria, see: CFA

What can children do?

Depending on the age of the children they should be involved in events arranged within your school or community. For more information on events and activities being organised across the state for Fire Action Week, go to CFA
