Employer Award Categories

There are four employer award categories available for nomination in the 2018 Victorian Training Awards. These awards recognise industry collaboration with the training and TAFE system to better align skills to workforce needs and give a voice to industry showcasing their achievements in providing quality training to its workers and potential employees.​​

Winners will become Ambassadors for the 2019 Victorian Training Awards and the Victorian training and TAFE system.

Large Employer of the Year

The Large Employer of the Year Award recognises a large enterprise which has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.

To nominate for this award, the organisation must employ 200 or more full time equivalent employees.

The winner of this award will be nominated by Victoria for the Australian Large Employer of the Year Award at the Australian Training Awards and will receive $5000 prize money.

Medium Employer of the Year

The Medium Employer of the Year Award recognises a medium enterprise which has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.

To nominate for this award, the organisation​ must employ 20 or more (but fewer then 200) full time equivalent employees.

The winner of this award will be nominated by Victoria for the Australian Medium Employer of the Year Award at the Australian Training Awards and will receive $5000 prize money.

Small Employer of the Year

The Small Employer of the Year Award recognises a small enterprise which has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.

To nominate for this award, the organisation must employ 19 or fewer full time equivalent employees.

The winner of this award will be nominated by Victoria for the Australian Small Employer of the Year Award at the Australian Training Awards and will receive $5000 prize money.

Employer Award for Apprenticeship Development

The Employer Award for Apprenticeship Development recognises those employers who have made innovative improvements in training which provide beneficial outcomes for their apprentices and/ or trainees in Australia and to their local community.

To nominate for this award, the organisation must be an employer of a Victorian apprentice (or trainee) at some time between 1 January 2017 - 31 May 2018 and have a formalised contract of training for the apprentice or trainee.

The winner of this award will receive $5000 prize money.

NOTE: This is a Victorian only award and the winner will not articulate through to the national awards. Nominees for this category will be ineligible for direct entry into the Australian Apprentice - Employer Award at the Australian Training Awards.

Supporting Evidence

The award criteria should be the focus of the nomination, however any relevant evidence may be provided to support the nomination.

Supporting evidence must not include additional responses to the criteria, but should include:

  • up to five photographs showcasing the organisation or initiative (required)
  • the organisations logo (required)
  • any recognition or achievement awards
  • other evidence supporting the claims made in your nomination
  • tables, graphs and figures (Word or PDF versions only) to support responses to the criteria

Nominations close: midnight on Monday 2 April 2018

Nominations will be evaluated by the Victorian Training Awards program team and only those eligible for the award will be entered into the judging rounds.

The judging consists of two rounds followed by an interview. All nominations are judged against the award criteria. Finalists will be contacted by the Victorian Training Awards program team to attend a panel interview to determine the winner.

All unsuccessful nominees will be notified.

The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony late August 2018.
